The ICC-ES VAR (Verification of Attributes Report) provides a thorough evaluation of a product’s environmental claims, delivering independent verification and clear documentation of its compliance with recognized green codes, standards, or rating systems.
The process begins by identifying the specific sustainable attributes to be evaluated in the report, referencing ICC-ES Environmental Criteria (EC) or relevant sections of applicable green codes and standards.
ICC-ES Environmental Criteria are developed to verify manufacturers’ claims about a product’s sustainability. Approved by the Environmental Committee, these criteria guide ICC-ES staff in assessing products against green building codes, standards, and rating systems. Certain requirements from green building codes, standards, and rating systems will require testing to show compliance. ICC-ES can provide the required testing to complete a VAR.
A VAR will demonstrate a product’s compliance with specific requirements of the applicable green codes, standards or rating systems such as the International Green Construction Code (IgCC), California Green Buildings Standards Code (CALGreen), National Green Building Standard (ICC 700), LEED, and many more.
